What To Pack For Your Colorado Ski Vacation

If you will be traveling to Colorado for a ski vacation, it is often difficult to know what to pack, especially if you live in a warmer winter climate. You may have come skiing in Colorado in the past and not even have a problem knowing what to pack. Instead you have a problem figuring how to get everything that you need from your home to your Colorado ski destination, especially if this is a family vacation. Skis do not easily fit into suitcases, and if you are flying to Colorado, this presents a huge problem.

Start by finding out what is available at your Colorado ski destination. Are there a rental shops? If so, how much are the rental fees for skis, boots, and poles. If the rental fees are reasonable, and you don't mind skiing with rented equipment, this is a viable option and it makes packing and traveling to Colorado much easier.

If rented equipment isn't your bag, there is another great option. Find out about any ski shops in the area. There usually are plenty of shops in the Colorado ski resorts. Get prices on the skis, poles, and boots you will need, then ask if they buy used equipment. It is often cheaper to buy new equipment, ski during your trip, then sell them back to the dealer as "barely used".

If the local ski shop doesn't buy back ski equipment, ask if there is anyone near-by that does purchase used equipment. Call that place to get an estimate on how much you could get for "barely used" ski equipment. Figure the difference in the money you will spend on the ski equipment, and the money you will get for the used equipment when you are finished with it.

If it isn't much more than what it would cost you to rent the equipment, go for it. In many cases, it is cheaper than rentals. Just think, your new equipment will be the next Colorado skier's rentals.

Ski suits, ski jackets, and sweaters can be very bulky, and hard to pack. These items will take up a lot of room in your suitcase, and leave less room for other clothing and essentials. If you are trying to pack for a two week ski vacation, it will be impossible to fit everything you need into one suitcase.

There is a way to solve this. Call the ski lodge or resort where you will be staying. Tell them that you need to ship a package, for yourself, to them, and that you need that package to be there when you arrive. Ask them if they will hold it for you at the desk. In most cases, they will.

Then, get a box, put all of your ski suits, your ski jacket, and any other bulky items in the box, and simply ship it to yourself, in care of the ski lodge or resort. Shipping can be overnight, two day, or three day depending on how far it must travel.

Depending on how much the box weighs, you will usually pay less than fifty dollars to ship a package in the continental United States. This is a lot less than you would pay an airline for extra baggage, especially to the more popular Colorado ski areas.

And, don't forget, you're not only going to be skiing and enjoying Colorado's outdoor winter adventures. The heavy, bulky winter gear is for the slopes. But after a day's skiing, you will also want to enjoy Colorado's ski resort nightlife. For that, you will need fashionable attire.

Be sure to pack clothing for the nightlife and dining. This should not only include fashionable clothing but also address the cold of the season. Winter fashions are a must. If you are thinking about all the events and nighttime entertainment that you want to take in, you will prepare in advance and include suitable attire in your ski wardrobe.

Think ahead and plan what you want to pack for your Colorado ski vacation. Remember the days on the slopes and the nights in town. If you include something for all aspects of your Colorado ski vacation, it will become one of the most memorable events in your lifetime.
